The Spanish motorcycle driver Marc Márquez has conquered the world title in the heaviest engine class, the MotoGP, for the fifth time in his career. The Honda rider won the Grand Prix of Japan, while his rival Andrea Dovizioso went down in the penultimate lap. This happened with an ultimate attempt by the Italian to pass Márquez. Dovizioso, starting from pole on his Ducati, got up and reached the finish line as eighteenth.

With only three races to go, the 25-year-old Márquez can no longer be traced. He comes in line with the Australian Mick Doohan who also has five world titles in the highest league. Only the Italians Valentino Rossi (seven) and Giacomo Agostini (eight) have more.
