Ferrari admits that it hurts to gain weight to hybrid its supercars: Ferrari acknowledged that it is not really fun to give weight to a car to use the hybrid technology.

Autocar recently had the opportunity to talk to Ferrari’s Technology Director Michael Leiters about the company’s future and its new SF90 Stradale and to give their opinion on the matter.

The SF90 Stradale uses a 4.0-liter V8 with two turbochargers, 769 hp and 800 Nm of torque coupled with an electric motor located between the V8 and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, as well as two additional electric motors on the front axle. All in all, the super sports car with maximum power makes 986 hp and sprints in 2.5 seconds to 100 km / h, in 6.7 seconds to 200 km / h and reaches a top speed of 211 km / h (340 km / h).

Ferrari has unveiled one of the most powerful, most advanced & fastest-accelerating road car it has ever produced : the SF90 Stradale.

Referred to as a “milestone in Ferrari’s history” by CEO Louis Camilleri, the new flagship model is also the first series-production plug-in hybrid Ferrari. It’s the second of five new models to exist this year – an “unprecedented” product rollout, inning accordance with the Italian firm.

Dubbed Project 173 during development, the production name is drawn from the firm’s 2019 Formula 1 car & consequently references 90 years since Scuderia Ferrari wased established. Unlike with the LaFerrari, production is limited only to the amount the firm can sell, with 2000 customers from worldwide aligned to see it.

Engine & performance

One of the most significant number for the SF90 Stradale is 1000. That’s the total horsepower figure (986bhp) that the petrol-electric powertrain makes : 36bhp greater than the LaFerrari’s & one of the most of any roadgoing Ferrari ever built.

The heart of the car is Ferrari’s award-winning ‘F154’ twin-turbocharged V8, bored out of the 3902cc of the 488 Pista to 3990cc. Engineers claim a total redesign, including new combustion, intake & exhaust systems, while a slim cylinder head, with a Ferrari V8 first in a brand-new 350-bar direct injection system, features.

The resulting output of the engine alone is 769bhp, with 590lb ft of torque at 6000rpm. The new engine design, where the turbocharger is mounted lower & the flywheel is smaller, leads to a reduced centre of gravity. The exhaust system also utilizes the super-alloy Inconel rather than steel to save weight, while Ferrari claims a “fuller, richer” sound.

Complementing the V8 is a trio of electric motors – two mounted at the front & one mounted at the rear between the engine & gearbox, giving all-wheel drive. All three generate an overall of 217bhp to earn the 986bhp total. They‘re powered by a fairly small (7. 9kWh) lithium ion battery pack that makes the SF90 Stradale efficient in 16 miles of electric-only performing at speeds of as much as 84mph.
